ISLAMABAD:– Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday (today) will inaugurate a mobile-based application namely ‘Pak Rail Live’ to facilitate a large number of customers by providing them information about timings and location of the train besides enabling them to get tickets online.
After that, the monitoring system will be effective in trains from Karachi to Peshawar, Lahore and Faisalabad.
The application even mentions the time left in arriving at the next station for the passenger.
The inauguration ceremony has been organised at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.
According to sources, the mobile application developers’ team has borne the cost of designing and developing the application on their own and not a single rupee has been charged from the government or Pakistan Railways.
Importantly, the PM will also inaugurate the Thal Express that will run between Rawalpindi and Multan via Muzafargarh, Layyah, Bhakar, Kundian and Mianwali.
The train service will be resumed after the period of 11 years. It was abandoned in 2008.
The Thal Express will depart from Rawalpindi and Multan at the same time on 7am on Feb 13.
Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed said that in continuation of the tradition of Pakistan Railways, people would be able to travel free-of-cost in the train on the first day.
The train will feature a tracker system which will update commuters to access information about timings, location and upcoming stations and even the speed of the train on the route.
In a statement, the minister has also informed that a new VVIP train ‘Jinnah Express’ would be operative between Lahore and Karachi from March 30, and another VVIP train ‘Sir Syed Express’ would also be launched later this year.
